Draw the edge

Draws straight lines on the layer you are drawing on, and on the Edge.Cuts layer those lines are the outline the board is cut to.

When the board needs its shape, or a slot or cutout inside it.

Not copper and not a connection, a line carries no net, and KiCad calls this Draw Lines.
