Place a part

Opens the footprint chooser, then drops the part you pick onto the board where you click.

When the board needs a part the schematic does not carry, such as a mounting hole or a test point.

Not the usual way parts arrive, which is Update board from schematic, and KiCad calls this Place Footprints.
